DESCRIPTION An effusive tribute to an ever-moving source of energy: the ocean.
This piece features a continuum of sensitized cut-out surfaces masterfully connected by color planes. The sea is not the usual blue protagonist here, but the white foam of its waves and the shadows they produce over the sand.
The overlapping bold shapes, which fold on top of walls and ceilings, like sea waves conquering the shore, are depicted in a strictly monochromatic palette, enhancing the shadows and volumes in multiple transparencies with the lush and dynamism that distinguishes Miami and Rodolfo Agrella’s work. Depending on the sunlight and the spectator’s point of view, the mural generates a changing visual illusion across its surface.
This work is part of Agrella’s “monochrome exercises,” through which he pays homage to Miami by approaching the city’s three most distinctive elements: light, air, and water.
